From screenshots to stories
What changes when a portfolio stops trying to look impressive and starts making the work easier to understand?
Sample article — an editable starting point for this journal.
A portfolio is an interface between a person and their work. It should help someone understand what was built, why it matters, and where to look next.
This sample article documents the direction of this portfolio redesign. It is an editorial starting point, ready to be replaced or revised in the content studio.
Start with the evidence
An attractive title card can establish a mood. An actual screenshot answers a more useful question: what does the project look like in practice? The redesign replaces abstract previews with real interfaces, and keeps project summaries distinct from product screenshots.
For projects whose images are not yet available, a clearly labelled summary is more honest than a fictional dashboard.
Let the layout explain the priorities
The first selected project has room to breathe. Supporting projects sit alongside each other, while earlier experiments live in a smaller archive. This gives the page a hierarchy without asking every project to compete for the same attention.
- Lead with the work most relevant to the opportunity.
- Explain the purpose before listing the tools.
- Offer a live link or source code when one is available.
- Keep experiments visible without presenting them as finished products.
Motion should earn its place
A pointer-responsive prism can introduce a sense of play. It should still leave the words readable and the navigation predictable. Reduced-motion preferences, touch screens, and slower devices deserve the same care as a large desktop display.
The useful question is not whether an effect can be added. It is whether the experience becomes clearer or more engaging because of it.
A website that can keep growing
A content studio separates writing from layout work. Project evidence, a new article, or a revised CV should not require a component rewrite. Draft previews and a deliberate publish action make that separation practical.
A note to keep
Good presentation makes the work easier to inspect. It does not need to make the work appear to be something it is not.
